Over the course of a week, Planet Care pupils helped measure the amount of food waste at St Lukes Primary.

They seperated the waste into categories – meat option, veggie option, cooked vegetables, potatoes, salad and bread, dessert.

Results showed clearly that cooked vegetables accounted for around half of the total waste.

Pupils reported that they preferred their vegetables raw.

We’ll be working with the Brighton & Hove Food Partnership to look at actions to reduce food waste, especially cooked vegetable waste.

Look out for the ‘Eat Them to Defeat Them’ campaign, encouraging children to eat more vegetables – this is now over for 2023 but there are plenty of resources on their website.
