A survey of 500+ Brighton & Hove secondary schools in 2021 revealed the following:

•Less than a quarter of Yr 7 11s are excited about the future
•55% are very or fairly worried about the environment. Only 7% are not worried
•Only 7% of students felt they have advanced knowledge of the environment. 43% of
students felt they only had a very basic or no knowledge. As we well know, we do not
care about something that they have no experience or knowledge of.
•89% felt it was important to learn about the climate and ecological crisis. Only 2% felt it
not important.
•However, most students feel there is not enough about the environment being taught in schools. Only about a quarter felt there was enough
