The Climate for Communities project is a 3 year National Lottery funded project, led by the Trust for Developing Communities and involving a wide partnership of Brighton-based community, voluntary and social enterprise organisations working with local people to take action on the climate emergency, with a focus on under-represented communities in 4 areas of the city.
Our City Our World is leading the work with schools, looking at how young people and schools can inspired climate action in families and their communities. The focus in the first year has been working with 3 schools in Whitehawk, where we’ve consulted with parents on uniform with Smarter Uniforms, linked schools to Gladrags to supply costumes for World Book Day, set up a nature based after school club, supported young people to become Tree Guardians, delivered assemblies, engaged families in marine activities and worked to develop sewing skills in the local community which we hope will enable volunteers to support schools in sewing and repair activities next year.
