The DfE expects all schools to have Climate Action Plans in place by 2025, identifying steps schools are taking to address;

  • Decarbonisation
  • Adaptation and Resilience
  • Biodiversity
  • Climate Education and Green Careers

A school Climate Action Planning template, developed by Let’s Go Zero, is available here (including targets discussed and agreed with heads across Brighton & Hove).

Through the Our City Our World programme, schools focus on termly themes and create change through staff, student and family actions.  Alongside these termly actions, school leaders and business managers may identify and work towards long term, high impact actions.

A bespoke schools Carbon Calculator, Count Your Carbon, is now available.  It’s useful to collect all data before beginning to input – you can use their Data Gathering Guide, annotated specifically for Brighton & Hove schools to make as simple as possible.

Do sign up to Let’s Go Zero – their Climate Action Advisors are able to support individual schools with their Climate Action Plans – you can register your interest here.
